Historic Funiculars & Harbor Views
Valparaíso, Chile
About This Activity
Valparaíso's ascensores are hillside funiculars dating back to the 1880s, built to connect the flat port area with the steep cerros above. Of the original 30, about 5-7 still operate regularly as national monuments. Ride the Ascensor Artillería for bay views, Concepción (1883) for Cerro Alegre access, and El Peral for rooftop panoramas. Fares are CLP 300-500 ($0.30-0.50), cash only.
Seasonal note: Year-round
