About This Activity

Chartres Cathedral (UNESCO) is considered the peak achievement of Gothic architecture — its two contrasting spires, 176 original medieval stained-glass windows, and sculptural portals have survived virtually intact since 1220. The Veil of the Virgin relic inside has drawn pilgrims for nine centuries. Trains from Paris Montparnasse run hourly (75 min, €16 return); the cathedral is a 10-minute walk from the station. Malcolm Miller's celebrated English-language tours run Mon–Sat at noon and 2:45 PM for a €12 donation.

Seasonal note: Year-round; May–June Chartres en Lumières festival adds evening projections; Malcolm Miller English tours Mon-Sat at noon and 2:45 pm
