South Coast Day Trip: Seljalandsfoss to Reynisfjara
Reykjavik, Iceland
About This Activity
Drive Route 1 east to Seljalandsfoss — the only major Icelandic waterfall you can walk behind — then to Skógafoss, a 60m curtain of water with rainbow mist. Stop at Sólheimasandur where a 1973 US Navy DC-3 plane wreck sits on jet-black volcanic sand. End at Reynisfjara beach, whose basalt column cliffs and powerful surf rank among Iceland's most striking landscapes. Allow 10–12 hours from Reykjavík.
Seasonal note: Open year-round; Reynisfjara's waves are extremely dangerous — never turn your back on the ocean
