About This Activity

The southern gateway to the lake, Como town has more architectural punch than the smaller villages. The Como Cathedral (Duomo) is a Gothic-Renaissance hybrid with a stunning carved facade and 18th-century dome. A 10-minute walk away, the Como-Brunate funicular (€4 each way) climbs to the hillside village of Brunate with panoramic views over the lake. Como is also Italy's silk capital — the Museo della Seta (Silk Museum, €10) traces the 500-year history of Como's textile industry with original looms and fabric archives. Allow a full half-day.

Seasonal note: Funicular runs year-round; Como town is pleasant in all seasons as a walkable city
