Temazcal Sweat Lodge Ceremony
Mexico City, Mexico
About This Activity
The temazcal is a pre-Columbian Aztec sweat lodge guided by a temazcalero healer who tends volcanic rocks heated in a fire outside, then placed inside the domed clay chamber. Herbal bundles of eucalyptus, copal incense, and medicinal plants are used to produce steam while the healer leads chanting and breathing exercises. Sessions run 2-3 hours and are deeply grounding — venues like Aldea Tonantzin in Mexico City offer authentic Zapotec-tradition ceremonies with small groups. Expect to sweat, meditate, and emerge renewed.
