About This Activity

Humboldt Redwoods State Park protects the largest remaining contiguous old-growth coast redwood forest in the world — over 17,000 acres. Drive the legendary Avenue of the Giants, a 31-mile scenic road through towering ancient trees. Walk the Founders Grove Nature Trail to see the Dyerville Giant (fallen 362-foot tree), or hike deeper into the Rockefeller Forest, the world's largest old-growth redwood forest. The park is free to enter; some day-use areas charge $8/vehicle.

Seasonal note: Year-round; summer/fall driest; winter brings rain but dramatic fog in the trees
