Évora Day Trip — UNESCO City of Roman Ruins & the Chapel of Bones
Lisbon, Portugal
About This Activity
Évora is a 1.5-hour bus or train ride east of Lisbon into the Alentejo plains. The entire old city is a UNESCO World Heritage site with 2,000 years of layers: a 1st-century Roman Temple of Diana stands in the town square; the 16th-century Igreja de São Francisco houses the eerie Chapel of Bones (€6 entry), its walls lined with 5,000 human skulls; and the 47km Água de Prata aqueduct still stands mostly intact.
Seasonal note: Alentejo summers are scorching (40°C+); spring and autumn are far more comfortable for exploring on foot
