About This Activity

Explore Capitol Reef's 8-mile Scenic Drive (one way) past the Waterpocket Fold monocline, Fruita's historic orchards, and pioneer inscriptions at Capitol Gorge. The park is the least-visited of Utah's Mighty Five, offering solitude and unique geology. Key stops: Panorama Point for sweeping sunrise views, Goosenecks Overlook, the Fremont Culture petroglyph panel along Highway 24 (free, no entrance fee on the highway), Hickman Bridge Trail (1.8-mile round trip), and the Gifford Farmhouse for famous fruit pies. The Scenic Drive itself costs $20/vehicle (7-day pass). Fruita's 2,500+ fruit trees are open for U-pick when in season (cherries June-July, peaches/apricots July-Aug, apples/pears Sept-Oct) -- pay the orchard honor-system fee.
