About This Activity

Lyon was the capital of the French Resistance during WWII — and the base of Klaus Barbie, the 'Butcher of Lyon,' who personally tortured prisoners in this building. The Centre d'Histoire de la Résistance et de la Déportation (€8) documents the resistance networks, many led by Jews, that operated from Lyon. The permanent exhibition covers deportation, resistance, and the Vel' d'Hiv roundups. Lyon's Grand Synagogue (1864) on Quai Tilsitt survived the war and remains active. The Croix-Rousse neighborhood had a significant Jewish textile worker community.

Seasonal note: Open Wed-Sun 10 am-6 pm; closed Mon-Tue and most public holidays
