The Musée des Confluences (€12 adults) is Lyon's most striking building — a deconstructivist steel-and-glass structure by Vienna's Coop Himmelb(l)au housing permanent collections on the origins of the universe, life, human societies, and eternity. Allow 2-3 hours for the museum, then walk the redeveloped La Confluence quays for a vivid contrast between Lyon's medieval past and its 21st-century ambitions. Closed Mondays.
