Cape Sounion & Temple of Poseidon
Athens, Greece
About This Activity
Perched 60 meters above the Aegean on a rugged headland 70 km south of Athens, the 5th-century BCE Temple of Poseidon is among Greece's most dramatically sited ancient monuments. Lord Byron carved his name on a column here. Visit in the late afternoon for a sunset that sets the marble columns aglow in gold above a deep-blue sea. Allow 4 hours including the scenic coastal drive from Athens. Admission €10.
