About This Activity

The Jewish Museum of Greece (€6) tells the story of Greece's two distinct Jewish communities: the ancient Romaniote Jews (in Greece since the 3rd century BCE, among the oldest in Europe) and the Sephardic community (arrived after 1492). The museum's most powerful section covers the Holocaust destruction of Thessaloniki — once called "the Jerusalem of the Balkans" where 96% of the 50,000 Jewish residents were murdered at Auschwitz. Nearby, the Beth Shalom Synagogue (1935) serves Athens' small remaining community. Closed Saturdays.

Seasonal note: Year-round; closed Saturdays
