About This Activity

Every hour on the hour, two Evzone soldiers in traditional fustanella (pleated kilts) and tsarouchia (pom-pom shoes) perform the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Greek Parliament. The grand Sunday ceremony at 11am includes a full military band marching down Vasilissis Sofias Avenue — arrive 20–30 minutes early to secure a front-row spot at the barricades. Syntagma Square itself is Athens's civic hub, flanked by the landmark Grande Bretagne hotel and shaded by orange trees. Completely free.

Seasonal note: Year-round, every hour 24/7. Grand Sunday ceremony at 11am is the highlight — arrive early in summer.
