About This Activity
Þríhnjúkagígur is the only volcano in the world where visitors can enter the magma chamber. A 3km hike across a lava field leads to the crater rim, then an open cable elevator lowers you 120m into a cathedral-like space big enough to contain the Statue of Liberty. The multi-colored rock walls display millions of years of geological history. Season: 15 May–20 October only. Minimum age 8. Current price approximately ISK 49,900 per person including the hike and descent.
