About This Activity

Cave Hill rises 368 meters above Belfast and is said to have inspired Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels — the hill's distinctive basalt profile resembles a sleeping giant. The summit hike takes about 2 hours return and passes McArt's Fort, an Iron Age promontory fort with sweeping views of Belfast Lough. At the base, the 19th-century Belfast Castle (free to visit) houses a café and visitor interpretation. Belfast Zoo is nearby for families.

Seasonal note: Best Apr–Sep; summit path can be slippery in rain
