Drive or take the Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Pompeii Scavi (20 minutes) to reach the world's most complete Roman city. Admission is €20 per person (from March 2026 exclusively through vivaticket.com; a daily cap of 20,000 visitors applies). Walk the ancient Forum, the amphitheatre, the brothel (lupanare), and the preserved villas with intact mosaics. The Garden of the Fugitives shows 13 plaster casts of victims frozen at the moment of the 79 AD eruption. Allow 3-4 hours minimum; hire an audio guide (€8) to follow the key routes.
