About This Activity

Shinsekai ('New World') is Osaka's most authentically retro neighborhood — preserved 1950s architecture, pachinko parlors, and streets thick with the smell of kushi-katsu (deep-fried skewers on sticks). The 103 m Tsutenkaku Tower (rebuilt 1956) charges ¥900 for the main observation deck — its neon beacon has lit the neighborhood for generations. Visit in the evening when the vintage neon signs glow and the salaryman bars fill up; kushi-katsu sets cost ¥600–¥1,200 at most casual restaurants.

Seasonal note: Year-round; most atmospheric at dusk when vintage neon illuminates the district
