About This Activity
Tahquamenon Falls State Park is home to one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi. The Upper Falls spans nearly 200 feet across with a 50-foot drop, its distinctive amber color coming from tannins leached from cedar swamps upstream. A short paved trail leads to multiple viewing platforms. Four miles downstream, the Lower Falls surrounds an island accessible by rowboat rental. Entry requires a Michigan Recreation Passport ($12/day for non-residents, or $17/year for MI residents). The park is open year-round, with the falls equally dramatic framed in ice during winter.
