The Village at Grand Traverse Commons is a remarkable adaptive reuse of the former Northern Michigan Asylum, built in 1885 and operational until 1989. Today the sprawling Victorian campus houses over 50 shops, restaurants, and small businesses amid beautifully landscaped grounds.
