Santa Barbara's beaches face south, giving them warm, sheltered conditions unlike most of the California coast. East Beach is the largest and most popular with volleyball courts and a bike path. Butterfly Beach in Montecito is a local favorite for sunset watching. Leadbetter Beach is ideal for beginner surfers and kayakers. All beaches are free and open year-round.
