About This Activity

The Channel Islands are often called "North America's Galapagos" for their unique ecosystems and endemic species. Santa Cruz Island, the largest, is reached by a 1-hour ferry from Ventura. Hike to Cavern Point for stunning ocean views, kayak through the world's largest sea cave (Painted Cave), or snorkel in pristine kelp forests. The island is largely undeveloped with no services — bring all food and water. Ferry tickets run about $62 round trip.

Seasonal note: Year-round ferries; spring for wildflowers; summer for kayaking/snorkeling; rough seas in winter
