From Aguas Calientes, the shuttle bus (20 min) delivers you to the citadel gates at first light, before day-trippers arrive. The site encompasses the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana ritual stone, the Temple of the Three Windows, and sweeping terraced hillsides in extraordinary preservation. Tickets (from ~$47 USD for a standard circuit) must be booked months ahead via the official Ministry of Culture site; multiple circuit options cover different areas of the complex.
Seasonal note: Dry season May–Sep is clearest; rainy season Oct–Apr brings dramatic morning mist but fewer crowds. Book tickets 2–3 months ahead year-round.
