Francesinha at Cafe Santiago
Porto, Portugal
About This Activity
The francesinha is Porto's proudest culinary invention: layers of cured ham, linguica sausage, and steak sandwiched between bread, blanketed in melted cheese, and swimming in a secret tomato-beer sauce. Cafe Santiago on Rua de Passos Manuel has served arguably the best version since 1959. Come hungry — it's a gut-buster. Pair with an Imperial (local draft beer). Budget 12-18 EUR.
Seasonal note: Year-round; Café Santiago is open Mon–Sat, closed Sunday. Arrive before 12:30 or after 14:00 to avoid the lunch rush.
