Termas de São Pedro do Sul — Portugal's Oldest Thermal Spa
Porto, Portugal
About This Activity
Termas de São Pedro do Sul holds the distinction of being both the oldest and most visited thermal spa in Portugal, with Roman-era changing rooms still visible at the site proving continuous use since the Roman conquest. Set in a lush river valley of the Vouga River, roughly 70 km from Porto, the thermal complex channels naturally hot sulphurous water (around 35°C) through a variety of classical bath formats: Roman baths, showers, aerobaths, and modern hydrotherapy pools. Day spa access for a basic thermal session runs approximately €20-35 per person depending on the package; specialised treatment courses start higher. The surrounding town of São Pedro do Sul is a charming thermal resort town with cafés and gardens — come for the morning session, have lunch by the river, and return via Viseu, a pretty historic city en route back to Porto.
Seasonal note: Open year-round; thermal waters are especially appealing in cooler months. Portugal's oldest documented thermal spa, used since Roman times.
