York City Walls Walk
York, United Kingdom
About This Activity
York's city walls form the most complete circuit of ancient town walls in England, mostly dating from the 13th and 14th centuries on Roman foundations. The full 3km circuit takes about 1.5 hours and passes four intact medieval gateways (bars), including Micklegate Bar and Bootham Bar. Views over York Minster from the walls near Bootham Bar are exceptional. Entry is free; access via staircases at each gateway. Narrow in places — not suitable for wheelchairs.
