Cocora Valley Wax Palm Hike
Salento, Colombia
About This Activity
The Valle de Cocora is one of Colombia's most iconic landscapes — a narrow valley of emerald cloud-forest and rolling pastures studded with impossibly tall wax palms (Colombia's national tree), some reaching 60 meters. The classic 4-hour loop trail from Salento passes by a hummingbird sanctuary and cloud-forest reserve before climbing to panoramic views. Jeep taxis depart from Salento's main plaza from 6 AM. The trail can be muddy year-round — waterproof boots are essential. Best done early morning before clouds roll in.
