About This Activity
Mount Blue Sky (officially renamed from Mount Evans in September 2023 to honor the Cheyenne and Arapaho peoples) is a 14,264-foot peak accessible via the highest paved road in North America. The Mount Blue Sky Scenic Byway climbs 28 miles from Idaho Springs through subalpine forests to the treeless alpine tundra, where mountain goats are commonly spotted near the summit. Important: The summit road was closed from September 2024 through 2025 for construction and is expected to reopen Memorial Day weekend 2026, conditions permitting. Check fs.usda.gov for current status. A timed entry ticket ($10/vehicle) and recreation pass are required. The drive from Denver to the summit takes about 2 hours each way.
