About This Activity

Head east from Vík along Route 1 through lava fields, Skaftafell National Park, and past Vatnajökull — Europe's largest glacier. The highlight is Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, where massive icebergs calve off Breiðamerkurjökull and drift into the sea, washing up as glistening polished ice chunks on the black-sand Diamond Beach across the road. Also stop at Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon and the photogenic Fjallsárlón lagoon. Allow a very long full day from Vík (3h each way).

Seasonal note: Open year-round; roads can be difficult in winter storm conditions
