About This Activity
The Gili Islands are ringed by some of Indonesia's most accessible coral reefs, and sea turtle encounters are almost guaranteed at several key snorkel spots. Turtle Heaven off the north coast of Gili Trawangan regularly has 3–5 turtles resting on the coral bommies. The northeast coast of Gili Meno has the famous Nest, where baby turtles hatch seasonally. Most snorkel tours run by boat (2–3 stops, 2.5 hours, around $15) but you can also snorkel directly off the beach in many spots. The water is warm (28°C), visibility is excellent, and the abundant reef fish make even a basic snorkel mask worthwhile.
