About This Activity

Christ Church Cathedral is Dublin's oldest building, founded by Viking king Sitric Silkenbeard and Bishop Dúnán around 1030 on the ridge of Dublin Castle hill. The current Romanesque and Gothic structure dates mostly from the 12th and 13th centuries. Its crypt — the longest in Ireland at 63 metres — holds medieval artefacts and the celebrated cat-and-rat display. The cathedral holds the heart of St. Laurence O'Toole, Dublin's patron saint, in a heart-shaped iron reliquary. Admission is €8; combined tickets with Dublinia Viking museum next door cost €15.

Seasonal note: Year-round; check service schedule; Christmas Eve Choral Evensong is atmospheric
