About This Activity

The Navigli district in southwestern Milan is defined by two historic canals — Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese — lined with art galleries, vintage shops, and canalside bars that stage Milan's famous aperitivo ritual each evening from around 6pm. The canals date to the 12th century and were used to transport marble for the Duomo. Walk the towpaths freely, then pick a bar for a Campari spritz or Negroni with a spread of free snacks (cicchetti). Sunday antique market along Naviglio Grande draws thousands of locals. Free to walk; drinks €8–12.

Seasonal note: Best spring and early autumn for outdoor canal terrace aperitivo; quieter in winter
