Miyajima island is a 2.5-hour journey from Osaka by shinkansen to Hiroshima, followed by a 10-minute JR ferry crossing. Walk to Itsukushima Shrine (UNESCO, ¥300) with its celebrated torii gate rising from the tidal waters, then hike Mt. Misen (535m) for panoramic Seto Inland Sea views — the ropeway costs ¥1,000 each way. Sample fresh oysters and momiji manju (maple leaf cakes filled with red bean paste) from waterfront vendors. The island is one of Japan's three classic scenic views.
