Portland East End: Eastern Promenade & Observatory
Portland, Maine Coast
About This Activity
Portland's East End is the city's most scenic neighborhood, centered on the Eastern Promenade — a mile-long grassy bluff with sweeping views of Casco Bay and its islands. Walk or run the waterfront trail at the base, then climb Munjoy Hill to the Portland Observatory (1807), the last remaining maritime signal tower in the US. Washington Avenue's independent restaurants and cafes make a great mid-morning stop.
Seasonal note: Observatory open Memorial Day–Columbus Day; promenade accessible year-round
