About This Activity

Hagley Park is one of the largest urban parks in Australasia — 165 hectares of open grassland, tree-lined avenues, and sports grounds flanking the Botanic Gardens. The Avon River (Ōtākaro) meanders through the park's southern edge, lined with willows, kowhai, and native plantings that attract tūī and kererū (wood pigeons). Cherry blossoms and daffodils line the avenues in spring (September–October); summer brings cricket on the greens. A morning run or gentle walk here is one of Christchurch's finest free pleasures, and a natural extension of any visit to the Botanic Gardens.

Seasonal note: Beautiful year-round; spring cherry blossoms (Sep–Oct) and summer green are peak periods
