Cuba Street is the beating heart of Wellington's alternative culture — a partly pedestrianised strip famous for street murals, independent coffee roasters, record stores, vintage fashion, and some of Wellington's most beloved restaurants. Wellington has more cafes per capita than New York City, and the flat white coffee style was popularised here. The annual Cuba Dupa street festival in March fills the strip with live music and performance art.
