About This Activity

Wellington's waterfront is a 3km promenade linking Te Papa to Waitangi Park, passing Frank Kitts Park with its lagoon and children's play areas. Public art installations dot the route, including the iconic Bucket Fountain and several Maori sculptures. The route is lined with cafes and bars; Oriental Parade extends eastward to a sheltered beach. On weekends the Sunday Market at Chaffers Dock is excellent for artisan food, local produce, and crafts. Entirely free and walkable — the full route takes about 1 hour at an easy pace.

Seasonal note: Enjoyable year-round; most lively in summer (Nov–Apr) with markets and outdoor dining. Wellington is windy — check forecasts before planning a leisurely stroll.
