Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf
Bergen, Norway
About This Activity
Bryggen is Bergen's most iconic landmark — a row of colourful wooden warehouse buildings lining the eastern side of the Vågen harbour. Built after the great fire of 1702 on medieval foundations, these structures served as the centre of the Hanseatic League's North Sea trade network from the 14th to 18th centuries. Today the narrow passages between the buildings hide craft galleries, restaurants, and the Hanseatic Museum. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, Bryggen is the photographic heart of Bergen.
