Big Buddha Temple — Koh Samui
Koh Samui, Thailand
About This Activity
Wat Phra Yai (Big Buddha Temple) sits on Ko Fan, a small island connected to the northeast coast of Koh Samui by a short causeway. The 12-meter golden Buddha image was built in 1972 and is approached by a stairway lined with naga serpent deities. Vendors at the base sell flowers, incense, and merit-making bird cages. The temple is free to visit (shoulders and knees must be covered; wraps available at the gate) and open daily approximately 7am–6pm. It pairs naturally with a visit to nearby Fisherman's Village in Bophut for lunch or dinner.
Seasonal note: Open year-round; early mornings offer the best photography light before tour groups arrive
