Aspendos Ancient Theatre Day Trip
Antalya, Turkey
About This Activity
Aspendos, 47km east of Antalya, boasts the best-preserved Roman theatre in the world. Built in 155 AD by architect Zenon during the reign of Marcus Aurelius, the theatre seats 15,000 spectators and retains its original stage building, acoustic design, and carved reliefs virtually intact. The acoustics are so perfect that a coin dropped on the stage can be heard in the top row. The adjacent ruins include a basilica, agora, and a remarkable Seljuk bridge. Still used for opera and ballet festivals today.
Seasonal note: Best Apr-Jun and Sep-Nov; avoid midday in summer
