Hvar Town Walk & Cathedral
Hvar, Croatia
About This Activity
Hvar Town's main square (Trg Svetog Stjepana) is the largest piazza in Dalmatia, framed by the 16th-century Cathedral of St. Stephen and the Arsenal building with its Renaissance loggia and theatre — one of the oldest public theatres in Europe, opened in 1612. The ivory-coloured limestone cathedral has an elegant Renaissance bell tower, a carved Gothic portal, and a treasury holding significant medieval and Renaissance artworks. Narrow lanes fragrant with lavender and rosemary radiate from the square; the waterfront riva along the harbour is lined with café terraces overlooking yachts and the Pakleni Islands.
