About This Activity

Akrotiri was a thriving Minoan city buried by the catastrophic Theran eruption around 1627 BCE, preserving two- and three-story buildings, painted frescoes, ceramic vessels, and urban infrastructure under meters of volcanic ash. Unlike Pompeii, no human remains were found — residents had time to flee. The site is housed under a protective roof; fresco originals are in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens. Admission €16.
