About This Activity

The Qutub Minar is a 73-metre tower of red sandstone begun in 1193 — India's tallest minaret and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside the complex: the Quwwat-ul-Islam (India's first mosque), the mysterious Gupta-era Iron Pillar dating to around 375 CE whose rust-resistant alloy still puzzles metallurgists, and the carved Iltutmish Tomb. The calligraphic bands wrapping the minaret are among the finest examples of early Indo-Islamic art. Closed on Fridays; book ASI e-tickets online to skip the queue.

Seasonal note: Open year-round except Fridays. Oct–Mar best; the open-air complex is very exposed in summer heat.
