About This Activity

The Spanish Arch is a surviving section of Galway's medieval city walls, built in 1584 to protect wine unloaded from Spanish trading ships. It sits at the point where the Corrib River meets Galway Bay — a great spot to watch kayakers and swans. The adjoining Galway City Museum (free entry) tells the city's story from its Viking origins through the medieval period to the 20th century. The nearby Long Walk promenade is a peaceful alternative to the busy Latin Quarter.

Seasonal note: Best May–Sep; Galway City Museum open Tue–Sat year-round
