About This Activity

Qumran on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea is where a Bedouin shepherd discovered the first Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947 — one of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th century. The national park preserves ruins of the Essene community who wrote and hid the scrolls, including ritual baths, a scriptorium, and communal halls. A small museum explains the discovery and significance of the texts. Entry is 29 NIS; the site pairs well with a Dead Sea float at nearby Ein Bokek.

Seasonal note: Year-round but very hot in summer. Morning visits recommended.
