About This Activity

The Catacombs of San Callisto hold half a million early Christian burials across 20km of tunnels on the ancient Via Appia Antica. Mandatory guided tours (45 min, €10 per adult) run every 15 minutes in English, taking visitors past 4th-century frescoes, marble epitaphs, and the Papal Crypt. Wear a light layer — the tunnels stay at 14°C year-round. Combine with a walk along the cobblestoned Appian Way past Roman tombs for a half-day excursion from central Rome.

Seasonal note: Year-round; cool 14°C underground makes this a welcome respite in summer; closed Wednesdays
