Bagno Vignoni — Medieval Village with Thermal Pool Piazza
Tuscany, Italy
About This Activity
Bagno Vignoni is one of Tuscany's most unusual places — a medieval hilltop village in the UNESCO Val d'Orcia whose central piazza is occupied not by a fountain or statue but by a large Renaissance pool of sulphurous thermal water at 48°C (not for bathing). Walk the cobblestone streets, then descend to the Parco dei Mulini at the village's edge, where the overflow water cascades through a canyon of ancient mill ruins into free bathing pools at around 38°C. The park is open year-round at no charge; the water cools slightly in winter but remains pleasant. The pools sit below the village in a dramatic gorge — bring sandals for the rocky bottom and towels (no facilities on-site). The whole visit pairs naturally with a Val d'Orcia driving day via Pienza and Montalcino.
Seasonal note: Year-round; best spring and autumn for comfortable temperatures
