About This Activity

Yanaka Ginza is a 170-meter covered shopping street that survived WWII bombing and Tokyo's postwar rebuilding — the last intact Showa-era shotengai in the city. Roughly 70 family-run shops sell grilled chicken skewers (torikawa), piping-hot menchi katsu beef croquettes, house-made senbei rice crackers, and locally roasted coffee. The surrounding Yanaka neighborhood has old wooden temples, independent galleries, and cat-friendly alleys that reward slow wandering. Allow 2–3 hours to shop, eat, and explore. Free entry; budget ¥1,000–¥2,000 for snacks.

Seasonal note: Year-round; most atmospheric on weekday mornings
