Ben Youssef Madrasa
Marrakech, Morocco
About This Activity
Founded in the 14th century and rebuilt in the 16th, the Ben Youssef Madrasa was once the largest Islamic college in North Africa, housing up to 900 students. The central courtyard, with its carved stucco walls, zellige mosaics, and cedar wood balconies, is a masterwork of Saadian-era architecture. The 130 student cells surrounding the courtyard give a vivid picture of scholarly life in medieval Morocco. Open daily 9am-7pm; admission 50 MAD, cash only.
Seasonal note: Year-round; open daily 9am-7pm
