About This Activity

Te Puia is home to Pōhutu Geyser — New Zealand's largest active geyser, erupting every 20–40 minutes to heights of up to 30 metres from the Whakarewarewa geothermal valley, where Māori have lived for over 700 years. The Te Rā Guided Experience (NZ$100 adult) covers the geothermal walk, a kiwi house, and the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute where master carvers and weavers pass ancestral skills to students. One of the few places in New Zealand to experience genuine living Māori culture alongside dramatic geothermal activity in one visit. The Te Rā + Haka combo includes a traditional performance.

Seasonal note: Open year-round; geyser activity is unpredictable but the walk typically yields a sighting within 30–60 minutes
