Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland
Rotorua, New Zealand
About This Activity
Wai-O-Tapu ('Sacred Waters' in Māori) is one of New Zealand's most visually dramatic geothermal parks, located 27km south of Rotorua. The Champagne Pool is a 65m-wide, 73°C crater lake rimmed in vivid orange arsenic deposits with carbon dioxide bubbling continuously from the depths. Lady Knox Geyser erupts daily at precisely 10:15am, sending water up to 20 metres into the air. Time your arrival for 10am to see the eruption, then walk the 3km loop through the Artist's Palette silica terraces in teal, yellow, and orange. Adult entry NZ$45. Allow 2–3 hours for the full circuit.
Seasonal note: Open year-round; arrive by 10am to see the daily Lady Knox Geyser eruption at 10:15am
